Worldly Tastes: No Need to Go Far for Foods From Around the World

Although Southwest Florida is famous for its fresh seafood, you can find other great dishes here to please any palate. Whether you’re hungry for a plate of huevos rancheros, a dish of spaghetti aglio e olio, or a bowl of ramen noodles, you can find dishes from all around the world right here—from Naples to Fort Myers and everywhere in-between.

DeRomo's Gourmet Market & Restaurant in Bonita Springs is like a Little Italy sprung up in the middle of Southwest Florida. The atmosphere—with its Mediterranean-style columns and tall windows that provide a view of lush gardens and cascading fountains—gives it that Tuscan villaggio feel. For the past seven years, this popular spot has attracted locals and out-of-towners who hunger for the delicious meals made with the freshest ingredients, much of which is locally sourced.

“We have something for everyone, including the kids and those with dietary needs. We work tirelessly to stay true to that and our Italian roots,” says Chef Rosemarie A. Drygala. Fresh handcrafted pasta dishes include all-time favorites such as lasagna, eggplant, ravioli, meatballs, parmigiana, and marsala dishes; insalatas and antipasto; and seafood and prime meat—many served with freshly baked focaccia and homemade basil pesto. “Always dripping with goodness!” adds Drygala. There’s also a butcher shop, gourmet market, and a bakery and coffee bar with delights like teacup tiramisu, all under the same roof. Private dining and a banquet room are also available, as is catering.

In Fort Myers, just off Colonial Blvd. on U.S. 41, is Kabab Village Mediterranean Restaurant.  Using the fresh ingredients, Kabab delivers authentic Mediterranean taste—from grape leaves to hummus to kibbeh. Lunch, dinner, and kids’ menus are available, as well as a selection of vegan and vegetarian foods. This family-friendly restaurant provides a lot of atmosphere in a small space, and if you’re looking for to-go meals, that’s available as well.

Namba Ramen & Sushi offers Japanese, sushi, and Asian cuisines from its Tamiami Trail location in North Naples. Plus, it has vegetarian and vegan options. The atmosphere is modern and intimate, and the menu is tastefully varied. From pork belly buns to wagyu beef gyoza, roasted king crab leg to vegan ramen—every item is impeccably presented. Dine in or outside, or take it to go.

Southwest Florida has four Mr. Tequila Mexican restaurants—three in Naples and one in Fort Myers Beach—where there’s nothing better than a margarita after a day at the beach, especially during happy hour. The interiors are bright, lively, and festive and have all the workings of an authentic Mexican restaurant. The menu has traditional fare—fajitas, burritos, chile rellenos, tacos, enchiladas, tamales, salads, and more—along with vegetarian dishes like garden quesadillas. A kids’ menu offers both American and Mexican choices. Plus, there are tempting desserts like fried ice cream and churros rellenos.

Paesano’s Italian Fresh Market, right in the heart of Cape Coral, has a large selection of imported and domestic Italian products, along with a fresh produce aisle, bakery, and deli. Paesano’s has added the casual Patio Café just outside of the market, offering a small menu of specialty sandwiches, such as the hot Italian sausage or the cold calabrese, along with a selection of homemade entrees. The café serves wine, beer, and soft drinks. Afterward, diners can browse through the market and pick up an Italian cookie at the bakery for dessert.
