Bonita Springs Woman Diagnosed With ALS Receives Holiday Home Renovations

Bonita Springs resident Miriam Garces and her family received home renovations and upgrades at no cost of their own thanks to a partnership between Lee Builders Care and Lennar WCI Southwest Florida, just in time for the holidays. The announcement was made by Lee Builders Care on Facebook on Dec. 15 and the renovations were revealed to the family on Dec. 18. The effort is a part of the annual effort known as the Focused Acts of Caring Holiday House.
Garces was diagnosed with a progressive nervous disorder known as ALS in May 2019. She and her husband Carlos were initially told the bathroom was the only renovation being made, as her condition caused her to need assistance getting in and out of the shower. The surprise renovations included new flooring, appliances, fixtures, and cabinets throughout the home. They also left presents for the children under the Christmas tree and gift cards to help in these unprecedented times.
"Ten days, you transformed this whole house," Carlos said in the reveal video. "And believe it or not, we've seen a lot of Extreme Home Makeover—that's our favorite show. Flip or Flop. Now we're seeing it in our house ... God bless every single person [involved]. This will go a long way in these hard times. Thank you."
The ALS Association Florida Chapter expressed its gratitude on social media, as well: "Thank you so much for providing your services to someone living with ALS and their family! Happy New Year to you all!"
The Lennar team and its subcontractors adhered to social distancing and safety measures throughout the project's lifetime during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.
