The Florida Everblades finished their 2016-17 campaign clinching the South Division, going 46-21 in the regular season, and reaching the division championship series, losing four of five games against the South Carolina Stingrays. Their season officially came to an end on May 4.

Since then, the Carolina Hurricanes affiliate has kept busy, announcing various player signings, as well as revealing Josh Robinson as the new goaltending coach.

Robinson, 27, was a goaltender in the ECHL and American Hockey League. He amassed an 88-46-5-8 record, with seven shutouts, a 2.88 goals-against-average and a 0.915 save percentage in 150 ECHL games split between the Missouri Mavericks and Idaho Steelheads from 2012-2017, according to the Florida Everblades website.

“Josh played two seasons for me from 2012-14 as our number one goalie,” said head coach Brad Ralph. “He was a hard-working goaltender, intelligent, focused and technically sound. His attributes as a player will serve him well as he starts his career as a goaltending coach. We are looking forward to having Josh and his fiancé Rebekah join our family. Josh will be a huge asset to our program.”

Additionally, the Everblades are keeping a spot open for the return of NHL veteran Jaromir Jagr. He will join the team for the 2017-18 season if he does not secure a spot on an NHL roster. Jagr, 45, ranks second all-time in NHL history in scoring with 1,914 career points in 1,711 NHL games split between seven teams, winning two Stanley Cups titles with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and 1992.

“We believe this deal makes sense for both sides,” said Everblades Public Relations Manager & Broadcaster Alex Reed in a news release. “Jaromir will have the opportunity to continue to play the game that he loves, while remaining in the tropical paradise of South Florida.  From the team side, well that’s obvious. Just imagine watching number 68 skate on Germain Arena ice, with his long hair flowing behind him. The whole thing just gives us chills.”
