The Estero Young Professionals Network, sponsored by TLC Marketing & Creative Services, teamed up with Meals of Hope on June 3 for the Summer Without Hunger event, and came in second place. The group said it was proud to announce its volunteers prepared 26 boxes, or 938 meals.

"What a great event!" the group's Facebook page said. All meals packed are delivered to local food banks.

It only took two hours for more than 250 volunteers to pack around 120,00 meals. All of the food provided and packed goes to families in the Southwest Florida area that are without food security.

The event took place at Estero High School.

According to its website, Meals of Hope began as a food packing organization, and is the only food packing organization with a priority on keeping the food packed within the United States. "We developed five meals specifically designed for the American palate and added vitamins, minerals and proteins to supplement an unbalanced diet," the website says. "Most of our packed meals are donated to the Feeding America Food Bank Network. More than 15,000 volunteers and six full-time staff members assist Meals of Hope in achieving its Mission."

"Supported and encouraged by The Estero Chamber of Commerce, Estero's YPN was started by a small group of young professionals looking for opportunities to exchange ideas, build professional networks, and to share common interests in a relaxed environment," according to its Facebook page.

The Estero YPN's next event is "Help 'Stuff the Bag,'" held on Aug. 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Twisted Tangle Cafe. The group will fill bags with goodies to give to the children at the Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida.
