Due to the unpredictability and severity of Hurricane Irma, elections that were initially scheduled for September 12, 2017 have been rescheduled. They will instead be held on September 26, 2017.

According to the Lee Vote website, because of inclement weather due to Hurricane Irma "... the Primary Election for the Cities of Cape Coral and Fort Myers in accordance with Executive Order No. 17-236, issued by Governor Rick Scott on September 6, 2017, has been rescheduled and will take place on Tuesday, September 26, 2017."

Tommy Doyle, Supervisor of Elections, Lee County, stated, "It is the foremost goal of the Supervisor of Elections and of the Cities of Cape Coral and Fort Myers to protect the integrity of the electoral process and minimize to whatever degree possible a person’s exposure to danger. To that effect, our principal intention is to provide for maximum citizen participation in the electoral process through safe and orderly procedures for persons seeking to exercise their right to vote."
